1,000 mph Car Unveiled

Last weekend, at the Farnborough Air Show, the Bloodhound SSC was revealed: a 13 ft long super-sleek, super-slick, full scale model of the car they hope will break the land speed record.

Now that they have secured sponsorship from Hampson Industries, the British company that will build the real car, they are looking forward to trying to smash the previous 763 mph record set by Thrust SSC in 1997.

“We would hope to be able to shake down the vehicle on a runway in the UK either at the end of 2011 or at the beginning of 2012″ said Chief Engineer Mark Chapman.

If the tests are successful, the team will try to break the record.

The car, powered by a Eurofighter Typhoon jet engine and another rocket motor underneath for good measure, develops the equivalent of 133, 150 bhp.

We will keep an eager watch on the Bloodhound and try to get some more information when we can.
