Cosworth upgrades the Hyundai Genesis for SEMA 2012
With all the big motor shows out of the way until the winter months, we can now start focusing on the upcoming SEMA Show, the huge expo in LA that’s devoted to car tuning. And it’s highly likely that this Cosworth-fettled Hyundai Genesis will be one of this year’s highlights.
Taking the top-spec Hyundai Genesis (which we, unfortunately, don’t get in the UK) as a base, fabled British engineering firm Cosworth has tweaked and modified it into what it’s calling the ‘Cosworth Genesis Racing Series Coupe’.
Being a “Cossie” product, the main improvements have been made to the engine, with the 3.8 V6 now developing a whisker under 390bhp, which is 41 or so horse power up from the standard car.
Other changes include a new satin-gloss blue paint scheme, revised aerodynamic bodyparts, gunmetal finished alloy wheels and – something these artist’s renderings don’t showcase – ‘bespoke interior components’.
There aren’t any words on whether or not the Cosworth Genesis will be making its way across the pond, but there are intentions to put the eventual production car on sale in the USA sometime soon.
Also, given Hyundai’s recent ventures into motor racing – the Pikes Peak hill climb this year was won in a Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and the Korean firm is planning on competing in the WRC with a specially prepped i20 – and the fact the term ‘Racing’ is used in the CGRS’s name, we expect to see a competition-spec example of this Cosworth enhanced Genesis sometime soon.
