Government to Subsidise Electric Cars
£43 million will be available to help cover the costs of 8,600 cars in the first year and a half of the scheme which will start in January.
The AA has said three cars will qualify for the scheme, all of which are hardly cheap.
The cheapest of the three is the Nissan Leaf, costing £28,000 when it’s released, and the most expensive is the Tesla Roadster, a car that Sir Roger Moore has had quite a lot of interest in. And in the middle will be the Mitsubishi i-Miev costing £38,000.
The grants will be available on a first come first serve basis.
If you also scrap your old car as part of the scrappage scheme, you could get up to another £2,000, meaning that, in total, you could have a total of £7,000 towards the cost of a new electric vehicle.
