GT 86 Shows the Future of Toyota

Toyota’s latest offering, the GT 86, has been unveiled at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.

The 2+2, rear-wheel drive coupé body sports car will go on sale in June 2012, using a four-cylinder “boxer” unit generates 197bhp at 7,000rpm and maximum torque of 205Nm at 6,600rpm; not as much as anticipated, but still very similar to the Subaru BRZ concept, also unveiled at Tokyo.

Said to be a ‘driver focussed machine’, it features a limited slip differential, a six-speed manual gearbox (a six-speed paddle shift automatic gearbox is available as an option), a very low centre of gravity at just 475 mm, and, thanks to its low kerb weight of just 1180 kg, a top speed of 155 mph.

The interior will be similar to that of the Subaru BRZ, featuring the same drilled lightweight aluminium pedals and instrument panel, but the cars will no doubt have their own identities.

17 inch wheels are fitted as standard, and when it goes on sale, the whole car should cost less than £30,000.
