Hot Second Generation 1 Series for Geneva

BMW has announced it will be unveiling a hot BMW 1 series at the Geneva Motor Show in March, hopefully as a precursor to a new 1M before 2014.

Called the M135i, it has a 3.5 litre straight-six turbocharged engine with just over 300 bhp, all of which goes to the back wheels – the main selling point for the 1 Series, when front or four-wheel drive competitors cost so much less.

Cosmetically, all the grilles and louvers from before have been enlarged for better cooling, and the wheel arches widened to fit larger wheels – 18-inch, twin spoke M wheels, to be exact.

The M135i is currently only shown in three-door specification, but that doesn’t worry BMW: ‘the three-door makes an even more sporting and elegant statement’.

A version of this should make it into production before next year (like they did with the previous 135i before the 1M), but BMW is adamant that this is only a concept at the moment, and that they will need enough positive feedback at Geneva before making this car a reality.
