McLaren confirms MP4-12C Can-Am production
Despite being based on the MP4-12C GT3 racer, the track-only Can-Am doesn’t abide to any homologation rules, so it can’t be entered into any race series, nor can it be driven on the public road.
However, an absence of such restrictions means the Can-Am will become the most powerful MP4-12C model to date, with the 3,8 twin-turbo V8 being rated at 630bhp.
The aero package also ensures this car will – until the P1 is unveiled in production form next year – have the highest levels of downforce of any modern McLaren, with claims that the large rear wing produces 30% more downforce than the racing car’s.
No more than 30 will be produced, and all will have a base price of £375,000. Nothing regarding an order book has been announced as of yet though, being a car of this calibre, we wouldn’t be surprised if long-term McLaren clients have already put their name down for one…
