The Queen’s New Wheels

To celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, Bentley has built 60 special edition Mulsannes, an example of which was shown for the first time in China this week.

Mulsanne Diamond Jubilee Edition cars will cost a fraction over £200,000, a snip to HRH, of course, but to those of us who don’t happen to be Queen of England the Mulsanne is a very pricey car indeed.

But you do get special tread plates with ‘Bentley Mulliner England’ and ‘Diamond Jubilee Edition’, special embroidery and the same paint scheme as the Queen’s official car, although buyers can specify other colours if they really want.

Richard Charlesworth, Director of Royal and VIP Relations of Bentley Motors, said: “The respect and genuine interest shown towards so many aspects of British life, and most especially The Royal Family, has made China a unique experience for our marque as well as many other UK businesses.”

Even though the Jubilee will never make it to a track (unless the Queen takes it to Silverstone for a damn good thrashing), Bentley has said the twin-turbo 6.75 litre throws the car to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 184 mph. Impressive, but then again it does have 505 bhp and 752 lb/ft of torque.
