The Story Behind the Toyota FT-1
Toyota surprised the motoring world last week in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show, unveiling the FT-1 – a two seater, front-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car that acts as a halo Toyota model.
Still just a concept, other than rumours that this could evolve to become the new Supra, there are no details whatsoever in terms of engine specifications, performance, or economy, but instead only vague statements about the cars good weight distribution and low centre of gravity, as well as a hint that the car is turbocharged (the car is available on Gran Turismo 6, in which you can hear a turbocharger).
MotorTrend, however, was given the chance to follow the design process of the FT-1 in Toyota’s Calty design studio in California.
Enjoy – it’s fascinating.
