Vauxhall Astra VXR Revealed

Vauxhall has released the first official pictures of the new 155 mph Astra VXR.

Going on sale in 2012, this will be the most powerful Astra ever built, boasting 280 bhp and 400 Nm of torque from a 2 litre turbocharged engine.

Although based on the Astra GTC, it has bespoke chassis settings, a mechanical limited slip differential, Brembo brakes, and a performance exhaust system.

The chassis itself was developed at the Nürburgring, with chief development driver and Le Mans 24 Hour winner “Smokin’ Jo” Winkelhock saying “We have devised a great package that will convince even the most experienced and enthusiastic drivers – and not just on the Nürburgring!”

A new and exclusive body kit is fitted to the Astra VXR as standard, and features a new interior as well as new front and rear bumpers and side skirts.

In the VXR family, it sits above the Corsa, and below the Insignia, as well as the VXR8.

Prices will be announced before the end of the year.
