Video: Toyota GT86 v. Ford Fiesta ST
The GT86 has become the fun-performance benchmark over the last year, with skinny tyres, low grip levels, small bhp and a smallish price. But how does it stack up against the Fiesta ST? Evo went to find out.
Rear wheel drive is certainly more fun, but can the front wheel drive hatch give the Toyota a run for its money?
The GT86 has a 2.0 litre flat-four boxer engine with 200 bhp and 151 lb/ft of torque. 0-60 mph takes 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 145 mph.
Compare those figures with the Ford, and you start to wonder if the 86 is a little outgunned: the Fiesta has a 1.6 turbo producing 180 bhp, but 177 lb/ft of torque. While the top speed might be slightly slower at 139 mph, 0-60 takes just 6.9 seconds, and you get all of that for £16,995 compared to the GT86’s £24,995.
So which is best? More money, but skinny tyres and rear wheel drive, or less money, front wheel drive and a turbocharged engine?
