Watch Honda’s Civic Tourer BTCC Car’s First Test Session

The new British Touring Car Championship is just one month away, and with that will come a selection of new cars, drivers and teams, including this: the Honda Yuasa Civic Tourer.

Filmed at Rockingham as part of Honda’s testing, Matt Neal put the new car through its paces over five soaking wet days.

Honda have said that, like last year’s hatch, the Tourer will be a real contender for the championship, but also that this isn’t just a PR exercise (coincidence: the Tourer goes on sale this month).

The new car is a very similar machine to last year’s Civic hatchback, but has a new 2.0 litre NGTC Touring Car engine and, of course, the new, more aerodynamic body style.

Quite how the Tourer will behave on the track is anyone’s guess, but with more weight further out towards the back of the car we should see plenty of ridiculous lift-off oversteer.

Both Neal and Gordon Shedden will be back in their seats for 2014, with Shedden saying “it might be a Tourer, but it’s still a Civic, the car that has won every championship in BTCC for the last three seasons.”

2014 should be a good year for British touring cars.
